WCAG is (probably) older. And so on… There is no reason not to have expected updates to WCAG. If anything, having 10 years between releases was an opportunity to figure it out and account for it into your process. Not to get complacent.

WCAG 2.1 has become the industry standard due to the 17 additional usability and accessibility considerations. WCAG 2.1 offers the two important benefits for users of assistive technology over 2.0. Overall, WCAG 2.1 provides 17 new success criteria as guidance for mobile device users by supporting interactions using touch, handling more complex gestures, and avoiding unintended activation of an interface. This set of guidelines are meant to enhance mobile functionality to be friendlier and give end-users extreme flexibility.
